Vanishing Point Challenger [PIC]
There was some interest in this image recently and I couldn't find photos of the Revell diecast kit. It's about as accurate as any out there including the 1/18. They all seem to have the sport gas cap that the movie car didn't. Also there was no attempt to model the special engine that was alluded to as being supercharged.
Anyway, this is part of a series of movie cars that Revell made. I also have the two Bullitt cars.
Only the hood opens so I tried to shoot the inside with limited success. One feature where this model shows its age is the lettered Goodyear Speedway tires. That harkens back to the days when licensing fees weren't a deal killer.

Nice looking car would die for one in 1:24
at 1/25, it really doesn't display all that bad with 1/24s
Outstanding pics of an icon. I'd also love a 'correct' 1:24....
About 12- 15 years ago, I saw 'one' of the movie Challengers at a museum in Servierville, Tennesse.
Great job Rich! I've seen the real one...
...close up, a couple times. It resides in Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in nearby Sevierville.
Another reference: Car pics.
Also found this, rather imperfectly done, video of the car on Youtube. The car appears about 3:13 into it.
The model looks pretty cool, I wouldn't mind having a 1:24 version in my collection.

Sorry Richard i thought it was 1:18
I have a lot of 1:25 cars most people cant tell the difference and your right they do dislpay well net to each other
I have the 1/18 H61 model also.....
obviously more detailed and operational, but still has the same inaccuracies.
Here's some old pics:

Perhaps since ACME has Access to Highway 61 tooled
They could be persuaded to make these with some grass roots campaigning? No one has as yet done a model in 1:24 of this car and no one has done it correctly. The real cars were not highly optioned. Plain gas caps, one low cost chrome mirror on drivers door.
No hood pins. However they did have rally wheels and bumper guards.
My understanding is that the cars has 383 and 440 engines in them.
One 440 4barrel and perhaps a 440 6 barrel? Along with a 383 car.
Two were automatics and one was a four speed I think. I have not studied this. But the H-61 molds could produce a nice VP Challenger.
As always Chris, you KNOW your Mopars!..PICS of 1:1's
I snapped these shots of the movie cars at Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum. He's there quite often and when asked, he LOVES to talk about these cars!

Ahh, Tony! the man on the inside. I hadn't even thought of the remake movie
Is that the one with Vigo Mortensen? They did use a 426 Hemi car. as they mentioned the engine size in the movie. So the dirty one was from original movie or 1996 version? Don't even get me started on the Bullitt Charger!!!
Yes and yes, You Got IT! Speaking of the Bullitt Dodge and the
Vanishing Point Mopars, here's a video I stumbled on.
Guess which one is #1??
Pretty good Mopar knowledge for a Corvette guy. Ya know, you Corvette guys used to snub us greasy Mopar guys when stopped next to us at a light.
Too refined, lightweight, and powerful to deal with a hot rod grocery hardtop.....
Never! Mopar, GM, Ford - All muscle is GOOD muscle! ;<)
I know, just kidding.
