By the eve of WWll Lincoln had discontinued its obsolete Model K and built only the Continental and a rather stodgy Zephyr-nosed limousine. Post war Continental production continued for a few more years and the limo was replaced with a Continental-esque 4 door sedan. By 1949, Lincoln and Mercury became joined at the hip sharing identical platforms with only minor styling cues to separate them. This fusion lasted until 1955, when Licoln again got to go its own way for the 1956 model year. Now a stand-alone division of Ford Motor Company, its new chassis would have a larger wheelbase with a drivetrain powered by the 285 hp 368cid V8 and their own 3 speed "Turbo-Drive automatic transmission. One of the early chassis was sent to Ghia in Italy to be returned as the Futura concept car. The 1956 Lincoln as either the Capri or the upscale Premiere ( easily identified by its golden ornaments, badging and scripts). The new Lincolns were quite popular with over 50,000 sold and 82% went for the top of the line Premiere selling at $4747.00. All the luxe appointments were standard with only heating and air conditioning options as extras.
This Danbury Mint Premiere hardtop coupe is one of their finest models.
This and the Wisteria convertible are among my most favorite models. What a beautiful design.
The 1956 Lincoln is one of the best looking Lincoln ever built; along with the '61 and the '69 MK III.

I agree with you 100% on the '56 being one of the best looking ever built. But NOT on the '61. How something so beautiful in '56 went so south in '61, will forever have me shaking my head. Different strokes for different folks as the saying goes.

AGREE 100%! This model is art. One of Danbury Mint's best, and they had so many that were incredible. The '56 Lincoln can always take a bow as being one of the classic styling designs of the fifties decade.

I do have to admit that I have a very soft spot in my heart for the 1972 Mark 3 or was it a Mark 4, that style was absolutely DDG.
The styling of the way the bumpers were designed into the fender lines and just into the overall shape and then that beautiful Opera window that you could get or delete it. I mean good Lord what a beautiful Lincoln Continental that was and still is.
If I had the room and the money I would look for one of those in pristine condition. I think that's one of the most beautiful Lincolns I've ever seen in my whole life.
Especially in that color which I think Lincoln called Ginger Moon Dust Metallic.

@100ford2003 I had a similar '79 MkV, black with Dove Gray half top, side spear and interior. I thought it quite beautiful. I wish I had the MklV instead. By 1979, the 400 V8 was detuned to less than 200hp and was good for 12 mpg on a good day.
