Yat Ming fire engine tip
Sad to hear that YatMing has/is shutting down. For those collecting this series, some online sources are selling off inventory at varying price points. I picked up one that I was not aware of, a 1944 Mercedes LF4500 ladder truck; as always, excellent details.
One thing that wasn't excellent was the ladder-raising hydraulic cylinder...the rod was too loose in the cylinder, so the ladder wouldn't stay raised.
Solution: rotate the ladder platform until you have a good clear space to use a pair of long-nose pliers to grip the rod. At both limits of travel, grip the rod and squeeze lightly. This will distort the surface just enough to provide a light friction fit. Voila, the ladder stays up and can be lowered with light effort.
