This 1942 9 passenger Chrysler Town & Country was touted as the "limousine for the country" and was truly the most luxurious estate wagon of its time. Built on the Windsor chassis and powered by a 112 hp, 250.6 inline 6 cylinder ( a 1942 upgrade), it was nicknamed the "Barrelback" for its curved woodwork rear doors. It had a lavish interior of leather and burl wood and was the proper vehicle for the lord of the manor to take his distinguished guests out of the grounds for a day of pheasant and quail hunting.
This is such a feature rich model that I had to have it even though my collection is primarily post war. Thanks for the post!
@djtusn3950 849 of the 999 Town & Country's built in 1942 were 9 passenger. 150 were 6 passenger cars.
Great writeup and pictures Rich. I liked the model well enough to also buy the green one and two 1/43 scale as well.
I remember getting this car and opening the box. I was is awe about how well it was made. I had not seen one until I received the model, and looking at your pictures Rich it really shows off all the beauty and working features of the model.
