In 1969, Mattel's Hot Wheels released their most iconic 1/64 model, the Corvette "Twin Mill". It made such a splash that they had a full sized "Twin Mill" built for the 2001 SEMA event. When Mattel began its ill-fated foray into 1/24 diecast models, they once again paid homage to the original Hot Wheel releasing two different versions in 1999. The first was a static, but operable Twin Mill Corvette in an original Lime Green Metallic with a companion 1/64. This second release in their "Legends" series was an amazing battery operated Twin Mill in Ruby Metallic that when affixed to the base created quite a sound and light show. The top opens, the engines fire up individually and shake while idling. The lights come on with the rear light bar sequentially firing. The model and base are protected by a full acrylic dust cover. I found an old Youtube video if you're interested:
Rich: I missed out on this one, but got the lime green version. I have most of the vehicles that Hot Wheels came out with.
Wow, what great memories you've revived !
Mattel had some of the 'bestest' toys ever along with that infamous slogan.
I had so many great toys growing up because of my doting paternal grandparents.
I was lucky ! I can't even remember how many new toys and models I was blessed with.
One of my favs was the Kenner Bridge and Building Set which I still believe is a possession of Marty. I'm sure i remember him mentioning it years ago !
Anyone ever had 'Fighting Matilda' ?
