1929 Pierce Arrow model 133 sedan (pic). I recently purchased this Pierce Arrow but now question the accuracy of the headlights. My understanding was that all Pierce Arrow headlights were molded into the front fenders in 1929 unlike these free standing headlights. Can anyone clarify if free standing headlights were optional on Pierce Arrows? I can not find any references.photo no longer available
Great car! -slightly smaller...
I searched around and did not see an answer... I did see one with non-molded in headlights though: http://www.velocityjournal.com/journal/1929/piercearrow/21227/index.html

PIC: Here's one of the originals, Ken
I'm not sure if they were all the same but my first search showed most of the headlights to be flowing into the front fenders.

Hemmings has the answer!!! -link
The majority of cars included the frog-eye-like headlamps that protruded from the fenders, a design first introduced by Pierce-Arrow designer Herbert Dawley. (New York state law, curiously, prohibited such lamps, so all New York-delivered cars featured freestanding headlamps.)
Ha! We were thinking the same thing at the same time, Karl.

Thanks Karl for the answer as well as the reason for the 2 variations. Very interesting.
I live about an hour from the Pierce Arrow museum in Buffalo and hope to schedule a visit now that the weather here is improved.

Ken, when you visit, take your camera and then give us a pictoral report, either here or in the Lounge. That museum just is beyond my visiting ability! Sounds great, though.
