In 1932 the group of enthusiasts from Leningrad decided to create luxury car for the government. By that time the Soviet leaders had been the clients of American manufacturers like Buick, Lincoln, Ford. So, the  directors of the Leningrad plant " Krasniy Putilovets" ( krasniy  means red) tried to demonstrate their opportunities and to provide the government the cars produced inside the country.

To do this task they decided to copy 1932 Buick 32-90. In 1933 6 cars named L-1 were built. All of them were handmade and were unreliable.

The Soviet government ordered to stop all works on this plant and to create new limousins to Moscow plant ZIS.

The model by L-1 was made in the early 2000 s by Vector models. This workshop is situated in Ukraine, in Kherson.

The technology of making models was unusual. The body is made by galvanoplastics using brass as a material.

The baseplate is resin.

all models are packed into carboard box where you can see the image of real car and read its short history and technical characteristics.

Thank you Fred. Very interesting and a vehicle that I had not heard of before. The building technique for the model is also unusual. Nice model!

Being a chemical engineer, I had to lookup "galvanoplastics", which is electroforming or electrodeposition to form metal parts onto a mandrel (the shape or  form).  Many examples popped up from jewelry making...  a very interesting process for manufacturing 1/43 model car bodies!

Galvanoplastics method was used by Ukrainian workshops from Kherson and Nikolaev. It was interesting experience and these manufacturers were

producing models about 30 years. Some of them are still in business.

The approximately list of manufacturers from Ukraine which were using galvanoplastic looks so:

Vector models

Kherson models

Kimmeria

ALF

KV

Pegas models

Nik models
