1930s is a post- depression decade. This was a time of interesting innovations in the car industry which brought aerodynamic style. The first car made in this design was Chrysler Airflow introduced in 1934. Unfortunately it had no commercial success but now is considered to be an iconic car. Without any doubt Airflow inspired other manufacturers to make something similar.
In the mid 1930s Lincoln had in production superb but conservative K series. Edsel Ford decided to create a car which would be very attractive and rather inexpensive. John Tjaarda and Eugene Gregorie designed a very stylish body. New model got the name Zephyr and was equipped with 4, 4 litre V12 engine 110 h.p.
Zephyr was released in 1936 and became the first successful aerodynamic car in USA. 15 000 items were sold during the first year and then Lincoln division was selling 20 000 models per a year. In 1942 production was ceased because of WW 2.
Brooklin made its 1/43 model in 2004 and in my opinion this is the best Zephyr ever made. It reproduces 1938 version in sedan variant. All detailes are superb and color is very nice. White walls on the wheels add some charm. This model is more sophisticated than early 80- 90s Brooklins which are rather simple.
I hope that in future white metal manufacturers will make 1936 and 1940 versions and if it happens will be an excellent opportunity to put them together and to illustrate Zephyr's history.
Nice writeup Fred. I have the model and love it.
It's an excellent model. I have this one and the green version as well, which I prefer. It would be nice to have more models from these years. The Gilmore Museum has a '38 Convertible Sedan that is incredible.

Yes, your information about this automobile is quite interesting and certainly adds to the visual impact of this Brooklin replica.
