1961 Jaguar MK 9 Saloon

Back in the late 1970's I was reading the New York Times on a Sunday morning, when an ad in the auto section caught my eye. I have loved Jaguars for as long as I can remember. Not te sports cars that everyone admires( and I do too), but the Saloons, including the 3.8 S. My favorite though, is the Mk 9. It is a big car, with plenty of beautiful wood and leather in the interior. I called the owner, in Hackensack, NJ and my wife and I immediately went to see the car Needless to say, I bought it on the spot. I only have these three photos on my computer, the rest are in an album. Unfortunately I let it go in the late 1980's, when I started to sell automobilia and models full time. The car was totally original, paint interior, tires, everything, and 18,000 original miles. I won't go into more detail, but it was British Racing Green, with a Suade interior. Borg Warner automatic (I think),and it just felt like driving the best car in the world. I know how John Quilter feels, because there is nothing like a Jaguar. Sometimes, we let the great ones escape. These cars are so underrated, when all of the stories are written about the XKphoto no longer available
120, 140 150's and E types, but I loved my MK 9, which was, by the way, one of the last 4 imported into the US. The MK 10 came shortly thereafter.photo no longer available

Sorry about the quality of the photos. Best I could do with these.

Lovely car. I had some Mark 9 experiences back in about 1968 when a Brigadier General friend of my Rear Admiral father, knowing I was a Jaguar enthusiast, lent me his white Mark 9 for a month with the instructions, "you know these cars, just detail it, sort out any minor things that don't work quite right". I thought I was the luckiest teenager in the world and boy did I detail it in the extreme. More wood, leather and chrome than you can imagine short of a Rolls Royce. Even more than the fascia on my 3.8S below.
