Bitten by the racing bug after making Grand Prix, James Garner wanted to give it a try as a part-time professional. But having signed on to make The Rockford Files, the studio nixed the idea. So he did the next best thing - became a team owner, forming American International Racing. For 1968, Corvette L88s were prepared by AIR and raced at Daytona and elsewhere. Garner also found a loophole in his contract which allowed him to compete in off-road events. Some great pics of the 'Vettes and further links here:
Ixo/DeAgostini has released this diecast of a 1968 AIR Corvette and I think they did a good job for a budget diecast.
Fantastic post Harv. Those L88 Vettes were the beast back then. Great link to the Garner cars and story. Thanks! The detailing on the model is excellent!!
