Looks like there's been a lot of action while I've been gone for the last couple of weeks! But here's an interesting little curiosity I found at a Lionel dealer's that I visited after getting tired of warm sand, placid waters, and the North Carolina seashore. First, the pictures: (Click on them for enlargements.)
Here is what I know: This was modified from a Road Champs production copyrighted in 1998 and made in China. I checked and found that the '57 Ford was made by Road Champs in several different forms, including a black police car with similar lights. Fallen Flags Replicas is unknown to me and I have found very little information on it. It seems to have been a short-lived venture to make cars for Lionel displays, but I'm not sure just what remains Road Champs and what is Fallen Flags Repicas' modifications. I have seen other Fallen Flags Replicas on eBay, but not this one. I purchased the only one the dealer had. So here it is. I also found another 1/43 model, but I'll save that for a later post.
It's good to be home. I strongly recommend two or three weeks in September and October on the southern Atlantic shores. Enjoy!

A very cool find, David ! That's a good looking '57 Ford and there seems to be some uncommonly seen yet really nice under chassis detail there, too.

The Ink Well used to make accessories for O gauge (e.g., Lionel) train layouts. I think the firm was from eastern PA but not 100% sure - they were definitely around in the late ‘90s; no idea if they still exist. Looks like they took some Road Champs and detailed them. I don’t pretend to be an expert on this but those are my recollections.

@jkuvakas Hi John, We took over our son's cabin at Ocean Isle Beach, just as we have done for more than thirty years. This time we had kind of planned on staying for three weeks, but the weather forecast for the last of this week suggested we come back a little early. I just watched the eastern NC weather and I'm glad we did. OIB is one of a small chain of islands sort of between Southport on the Cape Fear and Myrle Beach. It's a nice region of the state.

@d-m-holcombe, Kelly and I frequently stay on Topsail Island, just north of there. We really like the quiet feel and the beaches are awesome.
