This Maybach Zeppelin is a kit that I built a few months ago, not the finest work I've done, but also not the finest kit I've ever worked with.  It was made several decades ago by P Models of Switzerland, their No. 3.  I think I posted my process on Forum 43 "Old Style," but I'm not sure since that's no longer accessible.  So here we go again:

This is a big model, enough that I wondered if it was really to scale.  Then I compared it with a familiar model, a Premium X Wagoneer.

Comparative dimensions 1:1

                          Jeep Wagoneer                  Maybach Zeppelin

wheelbase                110 (inches)                        144/ 147 (sources vary)

length                       186                                    211/217

width                         74.8                                   71.7

weight                        4499 (pounds)                    6137

(Okay, so I included the weight figures just for the fun of it.)

I think this model really is 1:43 in scale, or at least awfully close to it.  Building this P Model was really an experience.  I don't think I'm going to try another any time soon.

Last year I managed to buy two of these and they are, indeed big.  That said I also - after about ten years of procrastination - managed to get an MV-43 1934 Spohn cabriolet and that, too is comparably big: as is the 1932 Spohn stromline. It would seem these Maybach were impressive.
