In January I acquired a rather nice GLM 1928 Rolls Royce Phantom I (New Phantom) Shooting Brake from a Chinese vendor. It was an experiment at the time which proved to be successful. The item arrived in excellent condition and in a pristine GLM box. It also included a small chair and two shotguns, which I have not seen posted with similar models or the one offered by GLM with the white hood.
So, tonight I took another risk and ordered an ATC Classic Models 1963 Rolls Royce Phantom V James Young Limousine from another Chinese seller, on eBay.com. I was surprised to note there was an additional charge for USA buyers, of 34USD on top of the shipping cost, due to the tariff situation between the two countries. I was assured by the seller that I would not be inconvenienced by a similar charge. The 1928 Shooting Brake arrived without any additional customs/duty fees, but I may not get so lucky a second time. We shall see. As I mentioned, this is an experiment.
The '63 Phantom V has what is referred to as 'blind quarters,' where the passenger quarter window has been eliminated, providing more privacy for the occupants. In addition, the rear window was significantly reduced in size and is referred to as an 'Opera' window. I prefer this model with spats, though.
Yeah, those are pretty sweet. 🤑
These both look well made. I have not seen either before but would love to add them at some point to my limited Rolls-Royce collection.
I have a vast collection of 1/43 woodies but never pulled the trigger on this one as I never could get past the wood grain on the vertical pieces having horizontal grain pattern which is totally wrong, otherwise nice model.
@parisi50 I just think of that as a layer of wood veneer laid in that manner to be different. All in all, it is an exceptional model for the price. Have a go, you might be surprised, though it might be best to buy one already in the States.
@david-green The Phantom I posted seems to be limited, as it was not available over here, though there was one in the UK. Mine was the last one the seller had, but I will keep an eye on his/her stock to see if the inventory for this model is restored. If all goes well I hope to acquire the black 1962 Phantom V Park Ward Limousine, from the same seller:
That Shooting Brake is gorgeous. I like the cute accessories too. Great find!
