A Few Comments
First, let me say congratulations to John Kuvakas,as the new moderator of this Forum. I think David Holcombe said it best, by stating that John is a good balance, plus a sense of humor for this group. The right choice. John, if ever I can be of assistance with some authenticity or historical facts, regarding certain cars, please don't hesitate to contact me. I don't profess to have all of the answers, but just maybe some.
Second, I have to agree somewhat with the member who said that having the cars in boxes, with tape around some for protection, and others behind other boxes, not to be readily in view, does nothing to help sell or show new models. But, in reality, it is not our job to display their models. Not unless we were actually selling them. So we are doing a service for the manufacturer or distributor, if we are only displaying a sample. It is not so easy to take the time to set up an elaborate display, when you are in the middle of trying to buy models for your own collections. To show off new models, they should be out of the boxes, in a showcase, easy to view. Otherwise, the manufacturer is not getting his money's worth, so to speak. I hope I am getting my point across. B&G Models were nicely displayed and easy to see.
Third, it is obvious to me that GIM is a blatant knockoff of GLM Models, right down to the name, and same body types. We should be wary about supporting this company. When I was manufacturing models. this was a worry for me,to have someone use my models to make their masters.
Fourth, I don't think this hobby is going to expand, with younger folks. AACA is having the same problem with 1 to 1 cars. Older cars from the 1930's to 1960's are still selling well. Just look at some of the statements from Matrix, Neo, GLM. Older cars sold out, and hardly available on the secondary market. A good example are the 1941 Cadillacs by GLM. Selling briskly. We still like older models as well as newer. Hard to explain, but a fact.

Second point - comments on...
Now that I think about it. We had so many boxes on the table from various manufacturers. The "booth staff" (i.e. I and a few others) decided which ones to open. John was really bust setting up the raffle, the silent auction, directing where each manufacturer's section would go, etc.
So my biases showed up - I wanted to see the beautiful B&G US$300++ so I opened up some. Then I wanted to see the new RIVA boats and the Pope-mobiles from Brooklin. I thought that most attendees would want to see the Brooklins since perhaps they had beard of them before. Other booths had old Brooklins for sale...
So we ran out of time - next year we will try to be more egalitarian and open up some of each. But even then we will miss someones's favorite!
Display steps are a great idea if we can get them donated and if someone will store, transport, setup, transport, and store them! Sounds like 6 volunteers is NOT enough for 4 tables! I would have never imagined!

table top + 1 + 2 stacked up. Might not be big enough
Mabbe try a test next year. Do a 3-ft wide section... What were you thinking?

Made some for my cabinets in the toy room. Can. make any length desired as long as they fit in the truck. LOL TWO? THREE? tears high No problem. Each tear maybe three inches deep with a two to three inch rise? Would be a great winter project for me and I'd get off my duff. Send me an email and we'll talk Can even do a paint job on them.

So many comments about the Chicago 43 Show it's hard to respond
And the pics were great. I even recognized a few familiar faces from so long ago. It also looks like we are in good hands with our new moderator. John is very dedicated to do a superb job for us all. I do have a simple question: Does this mean the show will move for us 43rders to the fall? I suspect Buzz to still be there in March. But can we expect to see this much excitement in the spring? I am in awe at what everybody did there. Nice job!
