I've been waiting to find a reasonably priced version of the 983 auto transporter for some time now. I found this one on Vectis, not cheap, but fair compared to others I have seen. Condition is superb, mint except for some very minor box rubs, with an excellent box (20 inches long!) including interior packing pieces and the original instruction leaflet.

You might notice that the trailer does not include a crank-down ramp like the truck portion. So how do the cars get to the top of the trailer? That's where the instruction sheet shows a child how to play with it in a realistic manner. You put the truck, cab first, up to the trailer. Then push cars up the truck's ramp, over the cab, and onto the top deck of the trailer. A genuine "Supertoy" with lots of play value, seen here with 8 Dinky cars. This was made from 1958 to 1963, also available with the truck alone as No. 984 and the trailer as No. 985. The truck was also issued alone in another color scheme.

Such a shame great toys like this are not available anymore.

Great item,  my older sister bought me this one in June of 1960 on her extensive trip to England.  Still display and treasure it.

An amazing find!!!  Love the box and instructions! 😍 Many Dinky collectors have this without the instructions and have never figured out how it works!

I love this but never saw one as a kid. To have that box AND instructions is a real plus! Congrats Harv.
