A couple of years ago I finally found a model that I been searching for: a 1954 Kaiser Manhattan in its rebirth as an Argentine Kaiser Carabella. This one originated before Brooklin made my favorite version, and long before a couple of others appeared. It seems to have originated in Argentina, was made in small numbers, but then by some process became produced again, where I found mine via eBay. I have featured it here before, but I will post pictures just to refresh memories:
Today I found a model I wasn't familiar with and ordered it- an IKA Kaiser Bergantin (or Bergantina?), produced in Argentina 1960-62 by the same Kaiser-Argentine company, IKA, that produced the Carabella. Before placing the order, I went to the company that produced this sedan model, Cartrix. It is listed in Hobby DB (along with one of my Carabella's pictures), and on the internet at cartrix.com.ar
At their site are pictures of other models offered, seemingly all made or once made 1:1 size in Argentina. There are versions of Chrysler Valiants, Dodge, a couple of older Fords, variations of Jeeps, and others. I might add that prices are all in Argentine currency, mail is both slow and somewhat expensive, and I could find no detailing of the construction methods or process. I have ordered one of them today and was informed it would not reach me until mid-September. It sounds interesting and worth the wait.
I am posting this just in case someone might be looking for something different. Have fun! David H
(later) Oh, just in case you're interested, here's the one I ordered today:
And there was also this IKA Renault Torino which was a slightly restyled Rambler American with a single overhead cam 3.8 liter in line six for power, a derivative of the engine that was used in some early Jeep pickups and Wagoneers and in the military version. There were four doors and coupes of the 1:1 Renault Torino sold in Argentina during the time there was an unusual cross connection between AMC, Kaiser, and Renault. . Shown here with a partworks Rambler American sedan.
