Some of you may be familiar with the Das Awkscht Fescht, which is held annually on the first weekend in August in Macungie, Pennsylvania.  The principal attraction of this festival is the over 1,000 antique and classic cars on display.  However, there is also a Toy Show which typically features all kinds of vendors selling all kinds of toys - including 1:43 diecast, white metal, and resin.

Frankly, this year's Toy Show was a disappointment - a virtual shadow of what it once was.  Perhaps the fact it was 100% outdoors (some of it used to be held in local school buildings), combined with COVID fears, kept the number of vendors down.  Overall attendance seemed less than usual as well.  Nevertheless, I still had a fun day.   Until......

The scariest thing happened.  I was innocently walking through the outdoor Toy Show, looking at each vendor's wares, when all of a sudden it happened.  It was there - on a table - practically jumped right out at me.  I nearly fainted, but recovered just enough to take a picture of the horror of it all.

Now that I've braced you all, here it comes.....

Hold on....

Take a deep breath.....

As time goes by, I enjoy that model more and more.

(Or to put it more precisely, "the more time goes by without me seeing it, the happier I am".)

I had a dream last night that one of those  suddenly appeared in my display cabinet; like a virus.  i can't shake it from my memory.  Is there such a thing as a model exorcist?

Based on the other models shown, the guy must otherwise have good taste. My guess his mother in law must have given it to him for a past transgression.

Such great humor expressed here. But, ahhhh yes, the Mona Lisa was mocked in her time, the Pieta reviled, the Eiffel Tower called "an abomination"! When once this strikingly beautiful piece of artistic nobility and grandeur enters the pantheon of passionately desirable pieces of artistic expression....then you'll all clamor to be associated with it. And, poor Skip, alas, will mourn having passed on the opportunity to acquire the Faberge Egg of 1/43 models.

John it's interesting that you would compare the model to an egg... I suppose that makes sense as someone who finds this model attractive might be some what cracked.

@bob-jackman Good point, Bob.  Upon reflection, I guess we can all agree that the manufacturer of this model definitely laid an egg when coming up with this one....

Skip, we and other Forum members once met at the Macungie show some years back at a fine local local pub.  Had I driven by this year I would have haggled to buy that infamous piece for its 'camp' appeal --- and trot it out while watching a B-horror flick on a stormy Saturday night.

BTW what was show's featured car brand this year? The 2020 Awkscht Fescht was scheduled to be Cadillac but the show was cancelled. I didn't find the 2021 info.

I'd be curious to know how much the seller was asking for this.....um.....item. Or was it a freebie to anyone who bought ANYTHING from his table?

@mark-lampariello Mark, I recall meeting you several years ago at Macungie -- great conversation and an equally good lunch!  The featured car this year was indeed carried over from last year -- it was Cadillac/LaSalle.  There were some very nice automobiles - mostly Cadillacs, but a few LaSalles too -underneath that "featured car" tent this year.

@mg-harv  I didn't even try to bargain with the vendor for this one, but I did inquire what he wanted for it.  The "asking price" was, ahem, $199.

@skip, a mere pittance compared to this delicacy's overall worth to humanity.
