A superb resource for 1:43 information

I often see questions posted about whether a certain model was made. Sometimes I will know the answer but a source that I can depend on is American Wheels - A Reference Second Edition by Jerry Rettig.

For those that don't know this book, the author, Jerry Rettig is a prolific builder of models, many that he has customized himself to create entirely new replicas, an avid collector, and a chronicler of the hobby who has compiled an enormous list of die-cast and handbuilt scale models categorized by year, make, model company and type. Plus it has photos of hundreds of models. It is IMHO not only an enjoyable book to read over and over again but a vital reference to the hobby.

The author may be contacted for a copy (around $40) at jerryrettig@msn.com

Speaking of excellent resources...

Thanks to a Christmas gift certificate that I received, I finally obtained Randall's book on 1/43 Fords from Amazon.com. The book is a terrific resource for 1/43 collectors, and I've already learned much from it. My only complaint is that it has encouraged me to obtain more units 🙂

Two more excellent resources ..........

Model Auto Review (MAR) and Four Small Wheels (4SW). Both cover a range of scales not just 1:43rd. Most 1:43rd scale models available over the last 20 odd years have either been listed and/or illustrated in MAR (and even some that didn't make it!). MAR also covers obsolete ranges from toy manufacturers and features chops on 1:43rd scale toys/models. 4SW covers the high end models but recently even some Minichamps, other die-casts and cheaper resin models have appeared in it's pages.
Randall had his letter published in MAR requesting information from fellow collectors for his book.

1/43 References - Four Small Wheels

I have approximately 70 issues of Four Small Wheels surplus to requirements (dating from approx 1992 to 2004) if anyone is interested.
