I posted a belated "p.s." at the end of my thread about the royal hearses, noting that several people had "reacted" but wondering how I could tell exactly what that meant.
Unfortunately, nobody reacted (which is kind of ironic).
How did anyone come up with something that vague? Thumbs up or thumbs down I can understand. "Liked" is clear enough. But "reacted" could mean "I have noted your post with passing interest" or "Wow, that's really fascinating", or "Hmm, maybe you ought to think a bit more carefully before opening your mouth", or "Damn you, I just had to go and chew a couple of heart pills." or "You are really pretty dumb but your post was kind of amusing so we'll let you live - for now."
Or none of the above.
As I said at the time, I was happy to take it as a mild compliment, but who can tell?
And come to that, what do you actually do if you want to react to a post? I haven't seen a button for it but it may be hidden away somewhere. Not that I'm likely to use it, since I think it's daft, but I'm just a bit curious. ("Yes, we know you are" came the answering chorus. Ah well, at least that got a reaction).
Incidentally the late addition to the thread also had one or two tiny additional scraps of information you may have missed.

I reacted to this with a thumbs up. As for the hearse I did find that interesting from your perspective and when I first watched the news coverage I was curious as to the make used for the hearse and was glad to find out from you it was a Jaguar. It looked like it could have been a Volvo or BMW on TV which would have been disappointing.

Graeme, I reacted to your post, but even I don't know if I gave you a thumbs up, a thumbs down or a vote to be the next King of England, so I will specify that I thought your post is brilliant.
Thank you Ben (and others). So I assume that whatever the reader's response for or against a post, the system simply shows it as a "reaction", Not all that helpful, really.
I much appreciate your casting a vote to make me the next King of England, but I am currently No. 67,508,936 in line for the throne, and if I have to wait as long as Charles did before taking over, the odds are ever so slightly weighted against me. But it's a nice thought, and a real encouragement to try and stay healthy.

@graeme-ogg, perhaps, as an unlikely series of events unfolds (it has happened before, that's how we got Gerald Ford in the White House) and you find yourself on the throne, you can once and for all vanquish the dictatorial rule of the despotic programmers at Wordpress. In the meantime, they have bestowed upon us their meager version of a summary box that appears at the top left of the original posting. If you subtract the number of thumbs up from the number of reactions you will arrive at the number of thumbs down. I have yet to notice whether there have actually been any thumbs down.

When you click on the thumbs up in the lower left
It seems the system assumes you mean to give the post a thumbs up. In order to give it a thumbs down, you must click on the red thumbs down icon. Otherwise, the system records a thumbs up.

John, for what it's worth, I just gave you a thumbs down, and if I am feeling better later, I might change it to a thumbs up 🤣
Do you see my thumbs down?
I just posted more info and 43rd scale model pics of Jaguar/Daimler hearses and limos in the Lounge forum.

@ben-lampson, I see the problem. To add up all the reactions to the post and subsequent responses, you must scroll down through the thread. If I do that, I can see 8 reactions in all but only 5 likes in the upper right-hand box of Graeme's original post. So, it seems three reactions were thumbs down. But, there's really no way to tell for sure. I'd be happy with a simple like button or a smiley/unsmiley. "Unsmiley", is that even a word??

But, there's really no way to tell for sure
I gave you a thumbs down, so I could see if it made it on your comment, but I can't see it, BUT, I can go onto your profile page....the software counts your thumbs up and thumbs down....you have 11.3K likes and a merely 4 dislikes (or thumbs downs). BTW, who else but me gave you a thumbs down? Don't worry John, we shall hunt the swines down and make them regret it!
Now I will go back and change my dislike (or thumbs downs) on your post to see if it changes the number on your profile page.
Ok, Update.
So I can see only my thumbs down on your comment John (see 1st pic), I can't see how anyone else reacted.
And then I changed my thumbs down on your comment to a thumbs up, and that changed on your comment to a thumbs up and also changed the thumbs down count on your profile page from 4 to 3.
So I will guess the software DOES NOT want anyone to know how anyone else is scoring.
Most interesting, Ben. Thanks for your help!

Those other 👎 were all from me. 😬 In the name of scientific experimentation.
