Here's two dioramas I built over a few years. I have to move them out of a condo I have to sell and they won't fit through either the door or windows.
I knew that condo was a good investment! Last time Rich, posted this I offered to buy the condo with the diorama and keep it there ... I bet the condo is even more expensive now ...
@chavWhen I was getting divorced from wife #2 in the mid-'80s I bought that 2BR w/basement unit because the monthly nut was cheaper than renting. It became my loaded to the gills man cave. When wife #3 and I had the second kid, we moved to a townhouse in Atlantic Highlands leaving all my neat "stuff" there resigned to the fact that after the kids left, we'd dump that stuff and I could bring all my prized possessions down there. Unfortunately, we filled the townhouse to the rafters with new neat stuff, so the hard decisions necessary to make has rendered us paralyzed as well as renting a crammed storage locker.
@stewilI'm your classic Baby Boomer ... VJ Day + 8 months. LOL I was raised on "Victory at Sea" and all that other file footage. The biggest boom to researching the jets and rocket planes came with the fall of the Soviet Union when all their file footage was released. The was a a real race to capture German research as well as the researchers. The USSR got a pretty good chunk with their 1st gen jets like the Mig 15 came right from Focke-Wulf plans.
@ed-davis about 40" square I think.... about 2" wider than my front door whatever that is. The scale is roughly 54mm or 1/32-1/35. I just planned out the diorama and built the base and Lucite dust cover to fit, I'm like the guy who builds an airplane in his basement.... and then what? LOL
@jack-doddsYeah, that Zundapp came out pretty cool. I like what they call 'soft skins' over armor. The Kettenkrad tracked cycle towing the Me 262 B-1a/u1 is also unusual.

Fascinating history Rich, did not know that about the Mig. Thank you. Do have an F-86 amidst an early 1950's auto display though.
PS How did/are you going to get that diorama out of the basement, and then what is it's fate? I just missed out on being a Boomer but maybe we are sharing the same fate - how to sell off over a thousand models, mostly 1/43rds to people who care.

@stewil I think the answer is to make arrangements with a toy/model reseller like Dick Browne and Wayne Moyer did. Geography plays a part here, because you have to get all that stuff to the auction house location.

PS Missed the Boomer cut but I was also raised on your quote above, and then I later lived a bit of it when I Joined the Navy and Saw the World. Remember the USS Maddox? I spent some time in the Pacific on her, but mostly I was an Atlantic sailor.
