Hot Wheels has introduced their second 1:43 Mercedes-Benz in their new Premium Metal/Metal Real Riders series. Both their Benz's are modeled off of real cars.
This one is a 300 SEL 6.8 AMG, nicknamed the Silver Sau (silver pig). It was a recreation of the famed Rote Sau, which was the first AMG race car and won its class at Spa 25h in 1971! See https://www.rotesau.co.za/the-amg-300sel-6-8-rote-sau . The red pig was later modified and most likely lost, but the silver pig lives on!
The real silver pig appeared online in 2019 but got lots of coverage in 2021 after Magnus Walker did a short film about it! See https://www.motortrend.com/features/driven-mercedes-benz-300-sel-amg-shines-monterey-car-week/ and
Reports say that "Former Benz engineers" or the "Mercedes-Benz Classic Center" in Long Beach built the recreation... A bit of a mystery about here it came from!

The HW does a credible job in the miniature version, with all the racing mods in place. For some reason, they placed the trunk straps in a different place (a minor detail) and gave it silver 5-star wheels. Why not gold? The racing lights up front are a nice touch, as well as the roll cage and lack of bumpers. With the fenders flared out, I wonder if they can re-use the casting for other 300 SELs?
The model comes in the standard clam shell package which is re-sealable! What a great packaging concept!
Yesterday I happened by a Target and picked up the new Mustang and 911 GT3RS. Only one of each was on the pegs. But there must have been six of the Silver Pigs. Had I seen this post first I might have picked one up, but I expect these will be clearanced like the first ones were online.
