Minichamps did a number of various Volkswagens of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s, from Type 1 Beetles and Karmann Ghias, Type 2 Transporters, Type 3 Squarebacks, Fastbacks and Notchbacks (not sold in the US) and Type 4 411 Sedans and Variants. I like Volkswagen of that era. Here is one of my favorites, a ‘66 Type 3 Squareback.

When my wife and I got married in 1965 she had a 1963 Type 3 notch back which she bought new in Germany and brought back when she returned to the states. I have a Vitesse model of the car in my collection. The 1/1 was a nice driver but difficult to find parts for since it was never imported into the US.
David; I am a big Minichamps/PMA VW fan and, regarding the 1600, I have the fastback and notchback and had meant to find the square back months ago but forgot. Your post today reminded me of this so I just found and bought one on ebay....so thank you!
- Jack, I’m glad you found a Minichamps VW Squareback. It was a nifty car and Minichamps replicated it very accurately. Here are my two in Kasan Red and Delta Green in addition to the Pearl White one.
Tomorrow I’ll post pictures of the Fastback and Notchback Tylpe 3.

David; This model looks great in the three colors you posted. I had hoped to find a dark red but ended up with the green; which is a very nice color but my Notchback is that color too.
Well, tomorrow is now and here are the three Type 3 Volkswagens for comparison.
The Notchback was an attractive version that was not officially sold in the U.S. but a few made it over here on their own. As Bob Jackson points out, however, parts exclusive to the notchback such as body panels were hard to get.

"THE VW NOTCHBACK?" Wow! One car I never knew about. I like it VERY much! Thanks for the wonderful pics & info David.
