I chose 2 models for this comparison that were crafted in or around the same time, and both using the best model technique and technology for their own materials.
I did not choose to use a newer resin to compare to an older Brooklin from the 1990's......that just wouldn't be fair.
One is a Neo resin and the other is a Conquest/Madison white metal model.
Is the resin crisper with more details or does the white metal model take the cake?
A nice comparison Ben. They also look great together. I have the NEO Bonneville and a couple different Pontiac models from Conquest. They are all great models.
I have always displayed my different medium models together and always have. I am proud to display them as a group and I accept the differences of the mediums.
I think the Conquest version does. NEO has some issues with the shape of the model and the slope of the year is very distracting. I think the models from Conquest better capture the overall look of the '59 Pontiac much better, especially the 4-door Vista sedan.
Being the terminally frugal person that I am, to add 1959 Pontiacs to my collection I bought four of the GFCC diecast convertibles, kept one stock, modified one into a hardtop and another one into a Catalina four door sedan and a final one into a Bonneville station wagon. Not as accurate or collectible as a Conquest but suit my needs...and budget.
Harvey, Interesting special car but in my 43rd hobby I rarely buy or create one off or limited production cars. There are enough (maybe too many) production items to replicate!
They are both really nice models and both have their drawbacks and advantages. There are some crisp details on the resin but earlier models, especially, may shed their glue-on parts and photo-etch. White metal has a satisfying weight and presence, but earlier models may be more basic in the details.
Bottom line ? Their is no clear "winner" and all models of any material can have pluses and minuses. If you like a car, get it and have a happy collecting experience.
In this particular case, the resin model is overall far better. Also, the way the hubcaps fit over the wheels on the metal model is distracting because they are offset from the rim. For me. metal models are something from the past and they cannot compete anymore with the quality resin models have to offer.
