Audi, whose former roots were in the DKW/Auto Union group, now as part of the VW group built some nice affordable cars in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s. The 60, 80, in the U. S. known as the Super 90 came in 2 door, 4 door, and a wagon. A larger model, the 100 came in a 4 door, 2 door sedan, and a coupe. Only the sedans made it to the U.S.
Minichamps released both the Super 90 and the 100 in several colors.
Here is the ‘71 Super 90 wagon: (actual and in 1:43)
I had just finished grad school in ‘71 and seriously considered a Super 90 wagon which went for about the same price as a VW 411. We chose the 411.
And here is the Audi 100:

Seriously looked at the Audi 100 at the time but ended up with a Dodge. Today, my main driver is an Audi A6.
i have no recollection of what I did last Tuesday yet I remember well one Saturday afternoon 51 years ago looking with my new bride at a blue Audi Super 90 wagon at the Audii dealership in Fairfax, Virginia. A replica of that very car was done by Minichamps as a promotional model and is listed on ebay. I was about to hit the “buy it now” button until I saw the price—$150 plus $25 shipping. These Minichamps models when new sold for about $35!

My dad had a Super 90 followed by a 100. This gave me a great appreciation for Audi as he was very bad at keeping scheduled maintenance and the cars kept running. The 100 was literally bullet proof. A sniper took a shot at it, and the bullet lodged in the engine block. The car kept running for years after that.

Talk about bullet proof! That’s an incredible story.
