Following the success of the Atlas replicas of old Dinky Toys, and Corgi Club's reissues of old Corgi Toys, PCT Collectibles has announced a range of replicas of early Brooklins. These will be diecast/plastic and follow the shapes of early "chunky" Brooklins. PCT considered using pad-printing to bring out chrome details so often lacking in the decades old castings, but nixed the idea because they would lose the charm" factor if they were made to look accurate.Â
Upon hearing the news, Brooklin/SMTS owner Nicola Bulgari threatened to sue. But PCT responded "Go ahead and try - nobody has successfully sued a Chinese company for intellectual property theft. Pound sand." PCT will not start with Brooklin No. 1, the 1933 Pierce Silver Arrow, because "there are too many of our own more-accurate versions out there already. Besides, how many collectors today have heard of Pierce Arrow?" Rumored to be first is the Chrysler Airflow, and initial sales will be in Russia, since sanctions against war-crimes leader Putin have left collectors there starved for new product. PCT will make the models at PCT's factory in Bangladesh, where labor costs are about nine cents/hour.
I will pass on supporting this company for obvious reasons mentioned by Harv.
@jack-dodds Jack - did you check today's date?
Thanks Harv, I understand that they are also going to make Western Models and SMTS built versions of British and German cars, all in resin. Should be interesting.
@jack-dodds Jack - did you check today's date?
GOT ME !!!! I need more coffee to wake up. Good one Harv!
It took me to the fifth sentence before I realized what today's date was! Good one, Harv! 😲Â
And I missed this Thursday, so here I am on the third getting all upset with the Chinese.  Thanks a lot, Harv! I may see you around Hallowe'en.
@d-m-holcombe Hey, I would seriously consider a trip up to see you (before Halloween). 😉  I am even closer than Harvey in Oak Ridge! I am 1.5 hr south of you in Greenville! Â
