The
Bugatti Type 101 made by in 1951 and 1952 (one was built in 1965). In order to restart production after World War II and the deaths of Ettore Bugatti and his son Jean, the Type 101 was developed from the pre-war Type 57. Seven chassis were built; these were bodied by four different coachbuilders: Gangloff [de]GuilloréAntem and Ghia, the last to a design by Virgil Exner. The 101 was powered by the 3.3 L (3,257 cc or 199 cu in) straight-8 from the Type 57.

Interesting Bugatti, and I appreciate the background story.  Well done, Frank.  Thanks for the good post.

very interesting Frank....at first I thought IXO had scrimped on the trim.....not so !!......maybe in the post war era they were not able to source metal easily?.......orrrrr......is the trim a choice for rough road longevity ?

@john-barry. I imagine it was a little of both along with clean styling.

That looks like the one in the Schlumpf collection by Gangloff.  I recognize the background from many years ago...  They loved Bugattis!  Now called  https://www.citedelautomobile.com/en   A fascinating but sad story about the brothers.

@karl. I use Wikipedia for the info if it has references.  I thought the Virgil Exner connection interesting although not directly related to the IXO model.  😎

The Ixo replicates Bugatti chassis 57454, the first Type 101 built on a surviving and modified Type 57 chassis. Matix made a replica of chassis 101506, the Exner-Ghia Type 101C, considered a 1966 year car. I don't have a pic of mine but here's one from Robert Budig's website. If it looks familiar, it's because Renwal made a 1:25 plastic kit of it back in the 1960s.
