This post in my Brooklin in Illinois series features the 1959 Alfa Giulietta Spider in Alfa Red (AR 03).  Yes, this is Illinois!  The background photo shows the Leaning Tower of Niles Illinois, a suburb just north of Chicago. This tower is a half-size replica of Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa.  It was built in 1934 to hide a water tower. Thanks to Karl Schnelle for letting me use his model for the photos.

Never knew that the Leaning Tower of Niles, Illinois existed. Love the picture and the Alfa is perfect for the scene.

Excellent Ed, and a new Illinois feature to me despite its age. Thank you.

Wow, I had forgotten all about the Leaning Tower in Niles. We used to drive past it a lot, as my father was administrator for the James Woodworth Prairie Preserve just a few miles away.

Always look forward to your Brooklin in Illinois series Ed. Did not know about the Leaning Tower of Niles, which is another Illinois revelation in your series. I do Know about that Alfa though as I took my girlfriend to the 1963 Boulder HS Senior Prom in a white one. A model of that Alfa now lives on my office work table in 1/18th scale, with a few other automotive memories from my youth.

@stewil Nice ride for a high school senior prom. I used my father’s 4-door Ford. It was also white.

Love this series  - and I'm not from Chicago! This Brooklin Alfa is a favorite of mine. One thought about a future Chicago scene: this June will be the 40th anniversary of Ferris Bueller's Day Off - the Ferrari that was owned by the father of Ferris's buddy would look great with a Chicago backdrop!

@tedweller When I received the Alfa model from Karl, it was the first time I saw one. I was very impressed with all its details.

@ed-davis It's a close comparison to the Minichamps (light blue).  Both are better than the blue Detail Cars but at a lot more $$$...

I missed out on all three of these. Plus there was a resin version by, I think, Century Dragon, that I really wanted, but dawdled on and missed out. At least I have this original Solido.
