For everyone who was there to reflect, and for everyone who was unable to attend to get a peek at what you missed, here's my weekend summary of Chicago Shenanigans 2025. First off, it was March in Illinois so we got sun and wind on Friday, rain on Saturday, and blustery snow on Sunday. I fear it would have been locusts if we'd extended into Monday.
FRIDAY - PONTIAC, IL
After a quick stop for coffee at a quaint cafe, everyone gathered at the Pontiac Oakland Auto Museum on the main square in Pontiac. While small, the well-curated collection of Pontiac history was evident in the displays, including a couple of campers that caught my eye. Others drifted towards the one-off show car on display:
Then it was off to lunch, where John Kuvakas gave all the attendees an event keepsake, something they will never, ever forget.
Kelly also made lanyards and name tags and John provided a special Brooklin pin and a Route 66 pin from the next museum we visited, and one where only now I realize I didn't take any photos. It was cool, though. The first floor featured every town in Illinois along the historic Route 66. The second floor featured items from the 1940s and the third floor was an exhaustive display of military uniforms from servicemen and servicewomen representing every branch of service. It was an emotional and overwhelming display of selfless service to our country. Then, it was off to Chicago for dinner.
SATURDAY - COUNTRYSIDE, IL
After retiring to our rooms, the next day started with Jeff Lane's 6th annual 1/43 & Automobilia Show at the Countryside Holiday Inn. There were plenty of tables filled with the things that make us all dream.
We welcomed first-timer Derek Thomas of Rail & Road Auctions, who was there to learn more about our hobby. His business had recently acquired a large collection of scale models and he wanted to better understand what we value before he runs his auction.
There were all the familiar faces as well, including our host Jeff Lane and a couple of his special models. The one he's holding has nearly sold out. It represents the last Motor City model made. It was cast but never assembled, until now.
Of course, there was Charlie, and Jim, and Howie, and Dave, and Buz, and others all there with their unique mix of must-have models.
Do you have any pictures of the prototypes that were supposed to be displayed from GLM and Stamp? What about the new Goldvarg models ? Maybe you were early in the morning because many tables look empty. i would have like to see the Goldvarg 1948 Pontiac.
Thanks for that overview and summary, Randy ! It looks everyone had a good time and there were a multitude of superb replicas. I wish I could have gotten out to the show and been able to get a family member to get me out there but I couldn't arrange it this time. I definitely hope to be at the fall show !
Terrific assembly of pics - thanks!
Thanks Randy. Sure would have liked being there.
@nickies Those were saved for Sunday's larger show. Check out the Part III post and the hospitality table.
Just in case you were wondering, Monday’s weather was sunny, high in low 50’s, and no locusts.

Great time hanging out with fellow enthusiasts on both days, and picking up a handful of models. Looking forward to future events.
