Chrysler Turbine Movie Car?
Hi
Question How close is the top on the 1:43 IXO CHRYSLER VALLANT ACAPULCO 1965 to the one on the Chrysler turbine car. I would like to have the movie car, starting with the inexpensive convertible and adding a new top. Maybe tweak the top from this model a little and it would be close enough. I am not that critical, just like to have a part that is close to finish the model. Looks close enough to me, any thoughts/comments.
Thanks
JD

diecast.
John, if I understand you correctly, you want to.....
?.modify that "cheapy" convertible Chrysler Turbine model to resemble the white race car Chrysler Turbine that appeared in the movie... Correct?
But you want to use a convertible "up-top" (the one provided in that other model) as a starting point...Correct?
And, you're asking "how close" it might be? Yet, you HAVE a model of the white race car in your pic.
Well, then... you have your answer. IMO, "not very" unless heavily modified.
You also show two other "hardtop" assemblies (resin?) better pics of those compared to the 1:1 Turbine would be helpful.
(PIC) Why not start with a Matrix? I seem to recall another manufacture's too.

Matrix Turbines are hard to find and fairly expensive. Someone on this Forum did...
a very nice conversion of one of these New Rays a while back.

(PIC) Right.... OK, then what about this one? Who makes it?

The toy-like New Ray seems to be the only Chrysler Turbine at low price and in large numbers available today. I am not impressed with it. However, I have seen pictures of a much better looking version by Matrix, occasionally available on the used market. I also have seen mentions of a similar Road Legends Turbine, but this may have been a Matrix. On ebay past sales is an interesting Chrysler Turbine by Provence Moulage, based on the New Ray. I suggest that you look this completed sale over. Happy hunting!
Not sure if you are really asking a question there, Christopher ...
or just giving me a quick "plug"! (For which much thanks).
Anyway, here is a link to a Forum post back in November 2017 where I showed that home-made conversion of the "toy-like" New Ray convertible. The post also has a discussion about the New Ray and Matrix versions and includes my description ("It's a tricky job") of how much needs to be done to bring the New Ray up to an acceptable standard.

HOLY COW! I had NO idea Graeme. You did an excellent job; you turned trash into treasure!
Well, thanks for that. But I'm surprised you missed it before ...
because you contributed to that earlier post (if only to say "Ha!") so I assumed you had read the whole post. Anyway, better late than never.

A work of art.
Yes, I ordered the Man Ray model but when I got it, it was so poorly done/made I sent it back.
Being mostly a 1/18 guy is why I probably forgot. Kind of funny really....
Does anyone remember the 1:25 promo?

Graeme Ogg ?
Hi Graeme
Very nice model you made from the diecast. Did you build the roof/top from scratch or if not what did you start with? Edit. Sorry I did not see the link to the first discussion on your model. I see you scratch built the top that answered my question.
