I have three Solido diecasts to show you. My Solido No. 128 was my 4th Solido, acquired in January, 1980, but this particular version dates back to the mid-1960s. Solido could have been a little more accurate with the masking used to spray the roof, but then it is over 50 years old. The replica has opening doors, folding seat backs, jewelled lights, and suspension.
Around 1985 Solido dusted off the old dies and revamped it completely. Instead of opening doors, we got an opening hood. Chrome plastic replaced the painted bumpers and plastic inserts replaced the headlamp "jewels".
In 1990 the organizers of the first Strictly 43rd meet use the Solido to make a replica of the 1961 Indy Pace car. The model was repainted gold, the engine painted Ford blue, decals made and applied, dash instruments detailed, and notes made on the baseplate. Not sure how many were made - 50? 100? anyone know? Mine is No. 41.
Lastly, a resin model. This is the 1963 Sports Roadster version by Motorhead Miniatures (aka Ford Genuine Parts).
Very nice Harv. I've quite enjoyed your series on the Ford Thunderbird. Thank you for sharing these.
@david-green Thanks David. Looking forward to your '55 Le Mans writeup.
Excellent Harv. I painted the revised Solido Champaigne to resemble my 1/1 Sports Roadster. As to the 61 Pace Car, I have the Danbury Mint version in 1/24 scale.
