I think there was a Design Studio or Motor City Viper, but I never bought one since I have plenty of Vipers. But I don't have the 1991 pace car version, so I probably should have picked one up. Very curious that there is no lettering on the base.
Thank you I have advised Ebay about the seller.
I checked in Jerry Rettig's book 'American Wheels' and he lists the following:
DS102 1991 Dodge Viper coupe - in notes section 'old number'
DS103 1991 Dodge Viper roadster Indy 500 Pace car
DS103Y 1991 Dodge Viper roadster
MC102 1993 Dodge Viper coupe
The 1940 Mercury Convertible isn't listed perhaps because it was released after publication.

I believe it is legit. I had a couple at one point. They were OK but not stellar. These were not very popular, and I think they may have been made of resin.

cadillaclloyd - Thank you I have been in contact with the seller , who seems to be a "honest" seller, I was surprised to learn that the "forum" feels it is real, I never knew Design Studio made resin models, I am still puzzled as to why no info on base plate, which was what caused my concern in the first place . I checked the list from years ago and found no such model any info would be appreciated . Thank you.
@mick, as with most Motor City models, details are few and far between. Alan Novak was experimenting with resin. These Vipers, the '67 Vette, the whole Motor City Gold line, and one or two late MOC releases, like the MOC '48 Chevrolet (at least some of them), were resin, some weighted to give the impression of heft. I've heard that the 2002 T-Birds were resin, and I had several, but I've never been able to determine if that is true. Alan didn't make much effort to make any of this public. I got most of my inside info from Bob Hooper, at first, then Corey Novak later. Of course, things were different back then. I bought my Viper directly from Corey when he was selling off their inventory after Alan passed. This probably explains the weird box. Corey was trying to put things together with whatever was left at the factory. Several of the models I got from him had no labels at all.

This seems like a real Design Studio and may be an early one by SMTS! See hobbyDB .
