In 1959 Datsun made only 20 0f the S211 sports car, hardly mass production. This was followed by the SPL212 and SPL213, and one of the latter was hidden in the basement "vault" at the Lane Motor Museum back un 2018. The Fairlady name was applied to this one and 217 were made, still a low-production model.
This changed in 1966 with the Fairlady 1600 sports car, intended to take on the MGB and other British 4-bangers. My Ebbro model, No. 43017, has a hardtop fitted and is meant to represent the GT-II class winner at the Japanese GP held at Fuji raceway that year. But Ebbro, being a bit new to the game in the late 1990s, cut corners and used the later Datsun 2000 for this one.
The dark red one resembles a late 50s -early 60s sports car that Humber would have made...if they had made one that is. At a glance its nose immediately reminds me of a Humber Hawk.
