Wrapping up my posts this week is Dinky's replica of the Triumph TR2. The TR2 had a 1991cc 4-banger from the Standard Vanguard, and was made until 1955 when the TR3 came along. As with other cars in the series, there were two color variants for both road car (No. 105, made 1957-1960) and race car finishes (No, 111, 1955-1959). No French issues on this one.

Dinky 105 and 111 Triumph TR2s
Dinky 105 Triumph TR2 yellow pic1
Dinky 105 Triumph TR2 gray pic2
Dinky 111 Triumph TR2 pink No. 29 pic1
Dinky 111 Triumph TR2 turquoise No. 25 pic2
Dinky 111 Triumph TR2 pink No. 29 pic4

Another beautiful full set of Dinky Toy TR2s Harv. I have really enjoyed this series. I have all these still but no boxes.

Atlas a few years ago made China re-issues of these with changed base plates, thank goodness. I got these also but can't say I am completely happy with their issue. Like the Solido, Quiralu and several other brands, there is a real danger of reducing the value of the fine DINKY TOYS originals.

That was my thought about these new redos; especially when they do them in the original colors.

On the other hand, if it brings more collectors into the fold, then they are a good idea.  The Dinky groups have been debating this and have not reached a consensus.  Many can't afford the mint boxed original so they welcome these Chinese reissues to fill in gaps.  I myself am ambivalent about them...  Seems like everyone is doing it - Mercury as well.

I don't think the reissues hurt the prices of mint boxed oldies based on the auction results I'm seeing. However, a) it can adversely affect the value of playworn or unboxed items, and b) as many collectors head for that swapmeet in the sky, heirs who have no interest in the old toys seem to be selling them off at a somewhat increasing rate. Here the law of supply and demand takes over.
