Austin-Rover created a rally supercar in the mid-1980s, which did well in national rallies but not so well in the WRC. The MG 6R4 had little resemblance to the MG Metro on which it was based, having a mid-mounted 4-valve 380 bhp V6 engine driving all 4 wheels. Austin-Rover actually met homologation requirements by making 200 of these by October 1985. When supercars like this and the Lancia Delta S4 were banned for the 1987 season, remaining 6R4s were sold as 'clubman' cars, with some even licensed for road use while others competed in rallycross events for years afterward/
Ixo has made numerous versions of the 6R4, and many more are possible with the proliferation of decal sets I see on ebay. Ixo even made a plain white rally-spec version (No. MDCS015).
I found this one on ebay that had been signed by the late Bob Arthur, who was teamed with Tony Pond for the 1986 Manx Rally, which they won. Ixo released this as No. AB-SKC40 (an odd number) in a limited edition of 1000. If only the seller had packed it better, the display case wouldn't have been cracked.
Another Tony Pond car, this one (RAC033) was a DNF in the 1985 Monte Carlo Rally.
The following two (Ixo RAC 166 and RAC182) both DNF'd in the 1986 RAC rally.
For comparison, here's the standard MG Metro by Neo. It had a 1300cc engine which only drove the front wheels.
