DINKY TOYS No.189G Triumph Herald
This is the second colour variation of the Dinky Triumph Herald introduced in 1959 and discontinued in 1964. The model came out simultaneously with full sized car's introduction.
The Triumph Herald is a small two-door car introduced by Standard-Triumph of Coventry, England in 1959 and made through to 1971. The body design was by the Italian stylist Giovanni Michelotti.
I have this one too David; had it as a kid too (that one didn't survive of course). Btw...are you aware that Lansdowne did the estate version of the Herald? I had it but it was stolen.
@jack-dodds And there was also the Bijou resin transkit for the Vanguards Herald. I did the pattern making for these for Rod Ward of Model Auto at least 20 years ago. Here is one I built. The other one is a Abby Kits white metal Triumph 2000 estate.

@john-quilter John; I wasn't aware of that estate but I do have the Abby Triumph Estate.
@david-green This model also was done in very small quantities in mocha and white apparently. I could never find one for sale over the years (and wouldn't have been able to afford it anyways..Lol) so I had a talented friend in England do me one up. I also read that Dinky did one in solid red in small numbers as well....never saw one though.
Hi Jack,
I gather that several unusual coloured Dinky Triumph Heralds found their way to Triumph Dealerships.
Here is one in sage green, not mine but currently for sale at auction. A know several variations also went out the back door at the Liverpool factory. I'd love to find a few at 'reasonable' prices.
@david-green Oh right.....I had forgotten about this variant. The auction price would likely be frightening!
The Triumph Herald seems to be a very popular subject for model makers. A quick look at Ebay shows them from White Box, Vanguards, (even a convertible) Cararama, Premium X, and Solido. Not sure if all these are related with just changes in branding. But here is one you will not find. A custom creation of the Indian version of the Herald known as a Standard Gazelle which was an Indian version of the Herald but rebodied as a four door sedan and even a very rare four door wagon. Here is my version. More for students of unusual cars there is much more info doing a Google search for Standard Gazelle.
