I just received a model by EMC of her Bugatti Type 35B and delved into her background. Also known as Eliska Junkova, she and husband Vincenc were huge Bugatti customers, and both of them raced. She is one of the most successful female racers ever, winning many races in the 1920s. The EMC model is of her 5th place Targa Florio car, a race she might have won but for mechanical troubles. She retired later that year after Vincenc died racing his 35B at the Nurburgring. She passed away in 1994.
Once again, I could not remove the clear top because of the tight fit of the nails holding it in place, so my pics are 'through the glass'. As usual for EMC, an outstanding model.
The Automobilist art business has made an incredible pit scene of this car, now that's on my wantlist. It's an overhead view, for which no photography at the time could have made. Check out a quick video of how this print was made here:
Thanks Harv,
What a nice model and a nice post. Ekiska Junkova (Elizabeth Junek) is an interesting character of whom I was a fan going back to the 1970s when I owned a 1927 Bugatti 35B replica. What an amazing racer for her time, surpassed in Bugatti likely only by Helene Delângle (better known by her professional name, Helle Nice). I loved these pre-war Bugattis and their fantastic racing record. Thanks for this post.
Great history and of course the model is mind-blowing.
Love the pictures and writeup Harv. While I don't collect race car models, I do have several of these Bugatti's in non race form.
