David thanks for posting this information but whoever wrote this ........
I would ask them where have they been recently?
Minichamps re-entering the 1:43rd scale market!
Sorry did I miss something here did Minichamps stop making this scale! I think Hemmings could do with someone who knows about what is happening in the world of 1:43rd and what Minichamps have been issuing in the last months ... years etc...
However, it is good news that a publication such has this actually recognises this scale and one of it's most important manufacturers!

Hemmings article
I agree, the article is a joke. Minichamps was imported as far back as the 1970s, when it was actually a line of white metal kits and handmades from Danhausen...
Now it makes sense - I remember some 1:64 MCs from years ago
Were they called Alloy Forms?
If these 1:64ths are going to be £10 each then I wonder if ....
they are going to be a success?
Like Harv has said they tried a few years with this scale but the range was limited and pricey.
I have a 1:64th scale MC McLaren F1 and very nice it is too but I didn't pay ?10 for it!

Well Karl I hope the article did state '1:64th' somewhere or ....
there may be a few others that could get confused!
Thanks for highlighting this!

The give-away was it was 'merican - so small scale = 1/64, no such thing as 1/43 round these parts!
Check out Wally World, TRU, Target, etc ... I know we are into 1/43, but I am talking about the popular auto collector press. We are a select bunch, which is why I love this board!
minichamps
They do such a great job with their subject matter at so little cost to the consumer, that if they ever focused on American subjects that members of this forum are interested in, they would blow everybody else out of the water.
Agreed Joe - if American cars were done like the
Horch, Mercedes, and Maybachs of the 1930's that Minichamps did (not to mention the FoMoCo series), certain WM companies would have to be afraid, very afraid.
Fortunately for them, I doubt it will ever happen as long as 1:18, 1:24, and 1:64 rules the majority of America.
I think white metal collectors collect for a number of reasons
But one of them is the exclusivity of the WM models. There are certainly other factors involved but limited production is part of the WM mystique.
As good as Minichamps may be, they will never replace high quality white metal models.
What's great is that there's plenty of room int he market for both.
Well said, Pastor K!
Weren't the original Alloy Forms 1:87?
Fidelity
Exclusivity is one thing, fidelity to image is another. I have examples of every Motor City image made and they are jewels , no doubt. But if you are also interested in the satisfaction of enjoying an image simply for the pleasure of looking at it, minichamps shows that it can be done without dedicating a major fraction of your disposable income and usually with better results.
