Found way back in storage. (pic) Remember Buck Baker?

Veteran driver Buck Baker drove the Thor Industries Chevrolet to one win and 14 Top 5 finishes, while finishing Fifth in NASCAR points in 1959.

And here's what I found stuck way, way back:

The box says "Quartzo" and "Racing Collectibles" and it was made in Portugal. It really looks like a Vitesse model to me, and I have seen mention of a NASCAR '59 Chevy by Vitesse.

Interesting to look back, and I like the way Vitesse (?) formed the windshield. The decals show some deterioration. Enjoy!

(And forgive me for another trip down memory lane; it could have been worse, for I just cleaned up a glass candy container cast as a Victory bus, circa 1942!)

I think four different Chevy race cars came out at the same time as yours.

No recollection of the drivers, but I thought about getting all four at that time. That was slightly before the severe flooding of the market with racing "collectibles."

But more important, please show us the BUS!

The bus (pic) just because David asked for it.

About 5 inches long, these glass containers were filled with a simple candy. During the metal shortages of World War II, we played with these. Often the results were kind of dangerous. They were cast in many different shapes and are collected today, especially if they are still filled with candy and have their original paper sealed bottom.

Would this be considered pressed glass?

(Pics) Vitesse/Quartzo used the same dies for civilian and racing cars...

they released at least six 1959 NASCAR Chevrolets and four 1956 Fords.

I have some of them, some came in Vitesse, some in Quartzo (the "racing" brand from Vitesse) boxes.

Decals were always their weak point, they cracked and/or peeled off after only a couple of years.

Sorry, David, but I don't know the glass terminology.

Vitesse (and Quartzo) are now owned by Sun Star... -link

Looks like they use the Quartzo brand as their 1:18 race car series now:
