In early 2022, GLM and Tom Dirnberger issued the 1st of his 1954 Chrysler New Yorker models, the Deluxe Convertible Coupe. Tom's versions came in four colors in both open and closed examples. GLM issued a 5th color in black as an open version only.
I wanted a black convertible in a closed version, I thought it would look good w/a white top. So, I picked up another red closed convertible and to make it somewhat different, I switched the wire wheels to the standard version from a hardtop, giving a 2nd green hardtop a different look. In addition, I changed the Highlander interior to the red/white version from the black convertible. When finished I had two slightly unique models, the red convertible w/standard wheels and interior and a black closed convertible w/Highlander interior.Â

Nice work, John. How hard was it to change the wheels and interiors?

Those both look great ! Superb colors and each of these beauties is now rather unique.
Ah yes, the old switch-a-ru!  Just another example of big results with minimal effort. Although I never owned one, I've always had a soft spot for these "pre-million dollar look" Chryslers, especially the '54s.Â
Not being a fan of wires, I'll take the red one with wheelcovers... and I'll need that "up-top" too. Nice work John, good looking models each. 😎 😎Â

I had to remove the door panels and the dashboard from the body. The front and back seats are attached to the base of the model, they came off too. Also, the windshield because the visors were a different color. The wheels were the easiest, once you take the model apart, they just lift out. Luckily the glue used isn't too permanent. I used a bit of water to soften it up and everything removed fairly well. I did have to paint the area behind the rear seat on the black convertible, it is only slightly visible through the rear window of the top, but I wanted it to look fairly decent. The most difficult was the wiper blades, they came off when I removed the windshield assembly and putting them back on required a bit of patience.

Nice conversions John. Thanks for sharing.
OMG, wipers are the WORST to reattach. Nice work, John!
