Hi All,

I'm curious if anyone here purchased both the GIM and Automodello Lincoln?  I went for the GIM as the proportions looked a little better and I liked the color palette better, especially the "French Connection" brown shown below.

Build quality is "ok" on the GIM.  The rear bumper does not fit flush, the front windshield PE is rippled , the C pillar emblems are placed a bit high and one door handle is askew, but who's counting......

Enjoy the photos.

Cheers!

Alfred

I have this one and plan to put French plates on it! Agree about GIM QC issues, mine had a mis-applied chrome bit ahead of the rear taillights and bumper but I was able to gently lift it and put it back into place.

@mg-harv I have this one on order; I'm waiting for it now to come in the mail.  Hope mine arrives in better shape than yours, Alfred.

If mine arrives with a misaligned anything, I'll have to send it to the Harv Goranson Body & Repair Shop.  My track record for trying to fix these things with a "gently lift it and put it back into place" approach usually results in disaster.  🙄

@skip, I have to laugh and sympathize, Skip. My "gently lift and put back into place" usually results in a "manhandle, drop and crawl around only to put it back the same way it was."

I am very fond of the Mark III, so I had to have both the green & brown. I prefer the green one. They weren't perfect, but I've made no adjustments to mine. I am not at all graceful when it comes to small delicate parts. I also have the Automodello versions as well.

@jcarnutz, thanks, John. Which ones do you find to be more accurate?

@jcarnutz, yes I am also curious which is better.

I noticed yesterday while on Ebay, it looks like a company called HRN has copied the Automodello Lincoln in 1/43 and issued it at a much lower price.

I love the 69-71 Mk. III so much I think I will wait until it gets done in 1:43 with more precision.

@jcarnutz, thanks, John. Which ones do you find to be more accurate?

Well it took me a minute to look them over.

I think the GIM versions look the closest, but they have the worst fit & finish. My green version is far better than the brown one, but still has a few issues. I do like the wheel covers on the GIMs better than the others-seem far more accurate. The GIM versions are also missing the tiny chrome piece on the tail lights.

I'd forgotten, of the other three, I only got the one from Automodello, the other two are from HRN and look to be copies. Same colors, but some differences.

The Automedello I have is the light blue, it has a crisp look over the GIM versions, but the trunk lid looks to have a bit more slope than it should-not really sure about that though. The model came labeled a '70-'71 Mark III, I chose to list it as a 1970, but looking at it now-I may have to change it to a '71 because it is featuring the high back seat, which wasn't available until '71. On that, looking at the GIM versions, the seat backs are lower than they should be, I am not sure if both versions were available in '71. I also like the open window choice on this one, it gives the model the open hardtop look that these cars were known for.

For the HRN copies- I am not sure how these came to be 'cause they are color copies of the Automodello versions, did the factory make some of their own to sell to someone else? Who knows. They have the same crisp look of the Automodello, but have a couple small differences. 1st the open window is in place on these, but are missing the frame for the back window, oops. I am not sure if I have the ability to do anything about this, way too delicate for my clumsy hands to rectify. They also have visible wiper blades when they should not, easily removed-haven't done that yet. The rear antenna is a larger and bit more clunky looking, I'll live with that. These also have the larger seat backs, which should make them '71s.

Well, as it is always true, no model is perfect. If you look closely enough, a concern or two will always show itself. With that, I am happy with them all, I may have to relabel them for the concerns I've mentioned. The GIM could easily be '70s (have to remove the plates) and the others could be 71s, something to think about. When it comes down to it, I look at a model and ask... Is it a good example of the 1:1 it represents? When I look at it, do I see what I should from the 1:1? In the case of all of these models, I can honestly answer yes to both questions, and I am pleased with my purchase and proud to have them. 'Nuff said for me.

with those comments, I do have photos taken of all five of them, I will pull them together and give them my touch-ups and post them later today if I can. Right now, I am itching to get outside the the yard-I have so much to do, it is that time of year.

@jcarnutz

Thank you for all the photos in your other posts and your detailed comments above.  Curious if you have ever owned a Mark III given your very detailed comments and knowledge on them?

Upon looking over the photos, the greenhouse on the HRN and Automodello look a bit squat when compared to the GIM.  I'm not sure which is actually the better representation, but I also feel the GIM is closer overall.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers!

Alfred

I agree with you on the look of the greenhouse. I looked at them after reading your comments, and I think that might be the case. I hadn't noticed that before.

I have never owned a 1:1, but I had a good friend that had one for years. I spent quite a bit of time with it and drove it many times. What a wonderful car. His was a '70, dark red w/a white top. I've considered one several times, just never went for it. Although I have had two Mark IVs & one Mark V many years ago.

@jkuvakas "gently lift and put back into place" becomes  "drop, and crawl, time and again".  The part vanishes to elsewhere in the space/time continuum, only to reappear to the previous homeowner.

This is why these little dears never come off their 'plinths'.

Hi all, I owned a ‘71 Mark III from 72 to 89. It was med green met with pearl white leather high back seats and a white top. Beautiful and a daily driver for me. The main exterior distinction between the 69 through 71 was the rear bumper of the 71 had reflectors built into each side towards the bottom. Also, hub caps on the 69 were finned and the 70/71 were the same design.
