By now, I had expected to announce the the arrival of the 1964 Imperial convertibles in special colors of Royal Turquoise and Rosewood, limited to 60 of each including top up and top down versions.
on Thursday morning I received notification that I needed to pay import fees for these 120 models. I promptly paid, and by late morning tracking for UPS said that they were on the truck for delivery no later than 7 pm on Thursday. It didn’t happen.
on Friday morning the tracking had changed to “we’ll let you know when we will deliver. I started making some calls to both the international and US phone numbers given. On the final call to the international number I was told the five parcels were in Hong Kong. I then called the number of the Louisville location where models came in and payment was made. She assured me that the models must be in Minnesota. She said maybe they were waiting to have all parcels together so they could be delivered together. I said “no, UPS has NEVER delivered parcels all together. They usually bring one or two parcels the next day.
The tracking now said on the way, with no specific time in mind.
on Saturday I made a trip to the distribution center. She tried to help but in the end was of little help. When she looked up the tracking, she said it showed the parcels were in both Hong Kong and Louisville. I asked her to check with a driver. I was told the driver certainly did not have them because her computer said so. I reminded her that maybe their computer was not so reliable, as they showed them in two different places. The Louisville contact said that absolutely they would not request payment unless the models had arrived in the US.
So here we are. I am hopeful, but skeptical that I will ever receive the models. To complicate things, I leave for Arizona tomorrow for ten days. Also this being CNY, my contacts in China are vacationing.
I am more than a little upset with UPS.
Oh boy, UPS should certainly get their act together ! It's definitely unfair to you, especially with the import fee demand. As for UPS computer "statements", GIGO applies in their case ....... (Garbage In Garbage Out)
I have bought models from China/Hong Kong and not paid any special import fees. My purchases are one to three items. What is the threshold where import fees start to apply, if anyone knows.

Yikes, Tom. Is this the first time you've been confronted with import duties?

@dirn We will pay what it cost. No big deal. We want your exclusive Editions.
My Canadian experience with UPS is not good at all....I always use Fedex.
I agree with Nickies so if the price needs to be higher let us know. Such will be the cost of exclusivity with classier color choices. Although atypical of GLM, they picked two dud colors for those flashy Imperials.
i have paid import fees ranging from zero to over 400 this last one at $480
Very sorry to hear this, Tom! If these were tariff fees, then you can dispute it and get a refund; scale models are exempt. UPS is terrible about randomly charging tariff and other random fees whenever they feel like it, with no consistency whatsoever. I currently have two bogus tariff charges in dispute with them, and right now they have a 5-month backlog of dispute cases. The HTS code for scale models is 9503.00.00...see attached.

thanks very much for your information. They have offered to refund the fee, but I declined for now, as it proves the models arrived in the US. If they do find them, I will apply for a refund.
thanks all!
@dirn, smart move! Keep us posted.
Absolutely! Keep them on the hook until they find your (our) models!! Please let me know if I can do anything to help.
