I just got done watching Dave Kindig & Co restoring the rotting hulk of one of Harley Earl's GM Futurliners to its former glory for the third time. It was an amazing feat of fabrication. These custom vehicles built for their traveling "Parade of Progress" events were built from 1940 to 1946 at a cost said to be $100,000 each.
The model here is the #7 "Out of the Muddle" vehicle that focused on urban and highway congestion. The operating light bar and showroom double doors work flawlessly and overall, it's a well done little miniature.
Hi Richard,
Since those Futureliners were pretty big vehicles could you please tell us the measurements of this replica ?
Thanks,
Steve
Excuse my spelling faux pas..lol.
Futurliner.
@100ford2003 It's about 9" long and with the light bar extended, 4 1/4" high. The height just fits into a 1/18 scale display case. I display it in there with a couple of Motorama vintage concept car models.
Thanks Rich. That must be one heck of a great looking display.
@100ford2003 Yeah, it is centerpiece worthy for sure.
@rich-sufficool My version opens up to show a sign "Three Dimensional Sound" and displays what looks like a very long TV and stereo console. These vehicles were one of the few I am aware of that had steerable dual wheels in the front. Any other examples of this?

Great pictures Rich. I have the three dimensional sound version.
Thanks Rich. I was influenced to #10 because we have a Fisher stereo sound system.
@bob-jackman WOW!!! Do they still make Fishers or, like me, my system was top of the line... in 1970.
Rich, that's about the time we bought ours. I don't know if Fisher is still around but ours was definitely top of the line back then. All of the components still work beautifully but the speakers could use some work but I don't know if anyone does that kind of work anymore.
@david-vandermeer So number 8 was empty? What other versions are out there and what were they promoting? Was everything they were promoting GM related?
