Here is a picture of a house being framed in and then two of the house finished. The story. When our youngest son, Fred, was about 10, he wanted me to build him a house. He chose the house he wanted. I worked on it for some time but his interest turned to baseball and other things. The house was nearly finished but ended up in a box stored away. About four years ago Fred asked me what ever happened to that house. Seems that his son Mike wanted a model house like the ones his grandfather built. So out came the unfinished house to be completed! Now Mike has his cars parked at the house started for his dad many yeas earlier.

Very nice work David! What kind of wood do you use - balsa? basswood?
Basswood primarily. On the house that looks like stucco I use plaster over basswood framing and basswood plywood sheets.Balsa is too soft. On the Vineyard house every shingle is applied individually—that’s right—every single one! I use real cedar shakes sanded smooth and stained to appear weathered and then individually cut and glued. I stain before gluing as stain will not adhere to glue residue. It’s painstaking but the effect is worth the effort.
