Herpa is a German diecast company, models made in Asia.

Between 1992 and 1999 they were producing Mercedes-Benz promos and I would assume promos for other German manufacturers. Nicely finished models but the promos had no opening features.

These are plstic, made by Herpa some 20 years ago.

As Dick has mentioned, they made some diecast MBs and Spanish Seat models in 1/43. No 1/43 are in the current lineup. They are more known in the 1/87 world.

I've got a black F-40 & red 348ts. Beautifully engineered models!

Herpa's main products are HO scale vehicles and very small scale airplanes where in both cases they do one model in lots of different liveries.
A couple of years ago they did a series of plastic Ferraris with opening features which were not too expensive at the time in their High Tech series. These days some special limited editions still fetch top dollar, but most can be had around the 15 to 20 Euro mark.

They have done some 1:43 metal models, but I do not actually know if they still do any models in our scale.

They have a German/English website with a fair bit of info and pictures:

Kevin when these models were first released they were expensive ...

the reason why they are cheap now is because the series flopped. I bought one sometime ago for ?5 and was delighted with it.

The choice of material is generally the reason given. They were high quality items but collectors who specailise in 1:43rd scale model cars seem to have a hang up on plastic models!

People who collect HO models know that this is the best medium for producing models that have crisp modelling detail. Herpa used their experience in HO scale model cars to produce these models and sadly got burned!

The Herpa die-cast MB model cars were made in China by a third party. Again these can be purchased cheaply over in the UK and obtained for around ?5 each. As Dick states they were released in promo boxes.

Cheers Chris

Another reason for the cheap prices now is the double blow dealt by

Ixo and Kyosho. As good as I thought the German-made plastic models were, the Kyoshos are even better.

I agree Harv the Kyosho Ferrari's are fantastic and I got one for £15 a few weeks ago.
