Here I am with my silly questions again! What US car makes would be considered "luxury"/expensive?

Let's say one wants to have a collection of "elite" cars, in 1/43, obviously. This entirelysubjective, of course.

1. All Cadillacs from the beginning of times, except for the Cimarron, I guess, the Euro-only BLS and the more recent ATS and smaller SUVs.

2. All Lincolns.

3. Anything that has Imperial in its name, as a separate brand or as a Chrysler.

4. Any Corvette/Viper/Ford GT

5. Top specs Camaro/Firebird/Mustang/Challenger.

6. Any Stutz. Or is too broad?

7. Any Pierce Arrow

8. Any Duesenberg

9. The largest Packards

10. Hammer H1 for sure; H2 may be?

11. Some odd cars, built using specs from any of the above, like 1996 Impala SS or any late model Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep product bearing an SRT badge.

12. Exotics, like Devon GT, Callaways, Saleens, Shelbys.

Do you agree? Any suggestions?

Thank you Smile

Well, In my humble opinion, no 2 door car is considered a luxury car, such as mustang, camaro, or firebird. They could be expensive, however.

There is a difference between "expensive" and "luxury", I think.

Luxury or expensive or elite?  Then maybe add Tesla and Fisker.  Interesting question!

Thank you, both. Lloyd, would you not consider an Eldorado or a Continental Mk. II a luxury car? 2 doors!

Karl, Fisker falls into the category. Tesla - that depends on the version.

I would think any car recognized by the CCCA as a "Classic". There's a bunch there - all Cords, some Auburns, some Buicks, even a few Studebakers. There are also cars which could be considered "exotic" in their particular era - Mercer Raceabout. Cunningham C3, and Vector come to mind.

Yes, I would. As I posted, I remembered the big 3 made 2 door luxury models, but I didn't have time to edit.

However, I don't think #'s 4, 5, 10, 11, & 12 hit the mark for luxury.

This was a great question!

While I generally agree with all the above, I would have put the #1 position of all American luxury cars of the past as Duesenberg.

1931 Duesenberg ad NAHC 6

From 1920 into 1937 this car was in many ways the ultimate American car.

Great lists! I would drop Hummer.  "Luxury" implied some class and dignity.

@lloyd-mecca Many 2 door cars are luxury cars. Any 2 door car of #'s 1,2,7,8,9, I could go on and onis a luxury car. I agree that all the cars in #5, even top spec are not luxury and not even expensive at least when new. It depends on what someones idea of what expensive is.

I agree. I thought I clarified that in the above post.
