I often wonder why there are so many Ambulance model collectors.
The few times I rode in one, it was not my intention. And they were not at all comfortable. Of course that was probably ME. And I didn't care if it was a Cadillac or not. And boy when the bill came it was a surprise, believe me. And they really were happy to get a fraction of it paid. Have you ever wondered why the hearses are always Cadillacs or another fancy make? What difference does it make to the passenger? I guess it impresses the widow. All she got was a Prius.
These are points to ponder for sure. I recommend having a beer.....
Actually the Navy bought some Pontiacs in the early '60s like the one JFK rode in at the end. A 1963 I think it was.

Dinky made a Pontiac ambulance in two versions. One of these days I'll make pics.
Well, if they are Cadillac related, it is part of the collection...

Also, the newest ones out there, the Desoto and the Cadillac are both copies of Professional Car Society members 1:1's.
On the Cadillac. you can actually see the PCS Grille Badge.

I'll second that maybe with a jack chaser
I love them, never ridden in one, but I have quite a few in my collection.
I think they are cool, but I also like funeral hearses too.

What I would like to know is back in the day why a Desoto ambulance?
The buyer could have opted for a Chrysler, Dodge, Cadillac, Buick, etc as most of these were likely all special order/special constructed vehicles.

Growing up around 1950 in a small southern town, our ambulance service was provided by the local funeral home. Yes, the primary ambulance was also the hearse, and they had a couple of them. Both were Packards, and these combos were made by Henney. For many years Henney built Packard-based hearses, ambulances, combinations, and also limousines. I think the last Packards built by Henney were in 1954.
DeSoto made a commercial chassis; Brooklin made it in grey a couple of years ago.
Right , is was a '63. I think it still exists too.
Old people loves ambulances...
Wasn't this JFK Navy ambulance supposed to be made in 1/43 ?
As I recall, the ambulance used at our local speedway was a converted '56 Ford station wagon.
It was crushed per orders from the family. A counterfeit was nearly presented at Barrett-Jackson.
