I have just ordered the latest model in the IXO 1:43 American Car series; the 1969 Mercury Marauder x-100 in red.  I recall several Forum members commenting that they like this car.  IMHO this rather inexpensive series is good value for money, so I have most of them.  I also noted that there are several Hurst Chrysler 300s from this series listed on ebay......a fair bit pricier of course due to popularity,  but still not too bad.

Can't find any pics of the Ixo, but Minichamps did a very handsome model of the X-100 in different colour versions, either solid Burgundy red or a lighter red with the black boot/trunk. Be interesting to know if the Ixo is better or different in any significant way.

Graeme;

I have the burgundy Minichamps Merc but to be honest I wasn't aware they had ever done the red one.  Price wise I would anticipate that the Minichamps will be slightly better...we shall see.

I have both. The burgandy was a part of the 100 years of Ford package.

Yes you're right; that's how I came to have it.  That is a nice set.

I have the Minichamps Burgundy Marauder and it's an excellent model. It displays really well.

I have the Minichamps in red. It's a truly fine model with great detail and not too expensive if you can find one.

Had a bit of a struggle finding the De Agostini version online, but an eBay seller in Italy provided a side view which allows a comparison with the Minichamps.

Mercfury Marauder comparison

Hard to judge the difference from these small photos. They look pretty similar. I feel the Minichamps might be slightly "crisper" in execution but maybe not. I almost wondered at first if it might be the same basic mould but there are small detail differences. The front screen on the De Agostini seems to curve around to the sides slightly more, for example. (Maybe just a trick of the light?).

The white pinstripe on the De Agostini beltline seems to have been an available option on the car. Whether it looks better with or without is a matter of taste.

The antenna on the Minichamps is correct but maybe a little overscale and you may feel the retracted version on the De Agostini looks "cleaner".

The wheels on the Minichamps are gorgeous and really three-dimensional. They look a bit more basic on the DeAgostini, although they do capture the essential pattern OK.

For anyone who has the Minichamps, I can't see any great reason to get the De Agostini version as well. But don't let that stop you. If you can't get hold of the Minichamps at a reasonable price, this looks like a decent alternative.

@graeme-ogg, thanks, Graeme. In some respects, the D'Agostini looks like it may be more accurate. But, I agree, there close enough. The large antenna on the Minichamps always bothered me a bit. Once you see it...

I'm obviously no expert on the finer details of this car. Just out of interest, maybe you can tell us what your expert eye spotted that makes you say that?

MY TAKE:  (can I say that?)

On the Agostini:  Roofline is more accurate around the C pillar area (window height); rear quarter panel seems slightly shorter (more correct); front fender upper corner caps are finer/more accurate; chrome trim on skirts.  Minor details though......

@graeme-ogg, I can't claim any expertise here. But, the rear wheel opening seems too small on the Minichamps. The D'A does a better job with the rear side marker light and the sloping roofline looks more accurate as does the line along the trailing edge of the rear quarter panels. The windscreen on the D'A seems to be more accurate as well. Of course, I don't have the model in hand and only have the photos to compare. So, I may be off in the weeds here. Overall, the D'A looks a bit crisper as well.

All in all, both are nice models. Even with these observations, I don't see enough difference for me to replace my Minichamps. I do like the white interior on that model better than the red in the D'A.

Hmm, interesting how perceptions vary! I've been looking at a lot of pics of the real car and decided the Minichamps roofline looked just marginally better. Also, the windscreen/windshield on the car is relatively flat and doesn't bow forward nearly as much as the screen on the DA seems to do, so I thought the MC was more accurate there.

Jack thought the front bumper end cap on the MC didn't look right, and in my side-view photo it does look a little too shallow and "squashed down". But from a different angle it actually looks as tall and squared-off as on the DA and seems accurate enough.

Anyway, I think we are all agreed that both are pretty good, and either one does the job.
