The Lotus Elan, made from 1962 to 1975, was the first Lotus road car to use a steel backbone chassis with a fibreglass body. This style of construction was to be repeated in subsequent Lotus models for nearly three decades. At approximately 1,500 lb (680 kg), the Elan embodied Colin Chapman's minimum weight design philosophy. The Elan was technologically advanced with a DOHC 1,558 cc engine, four-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and 4-wheel independent suspension.
Engine: 1558cc DOHC
Power: 105bhp@5500rpm
Torque: 108lb ft@4000rpm

Economy: 25.3mpg
Gearbox: 4-speed manual
@frank David & Frank; Here are a few of the Lotii that I have recently acquired; all 1:43 scale.
Red Europa is Kyosho; green Elite coupe is Spark; blue Elan coupe and red top down are Vitesse; orange Elan Type 50 2&2 is Oxford; yellow Elan 1962 (earlier tail lights) is Spark; dark green Lotus Super 7 is Minichamps.
I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the cheaper Vitesse and Oxford brands.....good value IMHO.
That is a wonderful selection of Lotus cars, Jack.
I don't have that Elite which I would like as it was the first Lotus car that I ever drove back in 1962.
A neighbour has a Lotus 7.
Here is my Kyosho Lotus Europa.
@david-green The green really allows the lettering and striping to stand out. The upgrade wheels look great as well. Very nice.
It just occurred to me that the 62 Lotus Elan is very much representative of the original Mazda Miata sports car; a well built, dependable little bomb and so agile, fun to drive.
