Maidenhead Static Model Club

The MSMC is Britain's oldest and widest based toy and model collectors' club, founded in 1969.

Maidenhead, Berkshire, is a small town in southern England, just west of London. The Maidenhead Static Model Club is a long-standing collectors organization, founded in 1969 by Mike and Sue Richardson.

At the time slot car racing was the big thing and to differentiate from it the new club emphasised the “static” aspect.

The M.S.M.C. has commissioned a few Brooklin specials over the years, all of which have been quite distinctive. A few specials were released for Christmas time.

Mike and Sue Richardson were famous for publishing Modellers World magazine, Several books mainly on Dinky Toys and  a 1/43 scale white metal kit series called MIKANSUE. They also for years until 1983 ran a model shop in Eton Wick in southern England. Sue Richardson died of cancer in 2010 and Mike died in 2013.

The M.S.M.C. has commissioned a few Brooklin specials over the years, all of which have been quite distinctive. A few specials were released for Christmas time starting in 1977, initially Matchbox buses. These were in limited numbers that are highly collectible today

The first M.S.M.C. Brooklin special, commissioned in 1983, was a Dodge Van (BRK16) finished in dark navy blue, with black fenders, tan interior and dark blue wheels. Several other Brooklin models followed as well as reproductions of Dinky Toys,Tootsie Toy, Solido, Spot On and other brands.

The words "Maidenhead Static Model Club" appears on the side panels in white and the club’s circular logo is found on the doors, also in white. Just 100 Dodge Vans were produced each numbered on the baseplate. Several other Brooklin models followed.

I only have one issue by the club, the SS Jaguar 100 Roadster issued in 2013 to commemorate Sue and Mike.
It is based on Dinky toy no.38F, issued 1946-57.

It was created in white metal by PP Copy Models, limited to 90 models, for Christmas 2013.

I just had to have this one as an addition to my Jaguar collection. Iam still looking for two other Jaguars that they issued.

I belonged to this club for a number of years and have some of their annual club models.  My sister lived at Cookham Dean in the 1990s which is near Maidenhead and I visited there a couple of times.  It's a very lovely area.

That Jag is very nice - thanks for the history behind it.  We have several other MSMC models here.

I would not mind finding that SS100. I knew Mike and Sue and even contributed to Modellers' World years ago.
