My oldest Norev, my favorite Norev, and why you should never count out diecast.
My oldest Norev is No. 90, an all-plastic MG 1100. Introduced in 1965, it probably was withdrawn in the early 1970s.

The base of the box is folded cardboard with specs on the real car.

The other part of the box is a thin plastic top, typically affixed to the base with cellophane tape.

My favorite Norev is the Cadillac XLR, which dates from the mid-2000s (maybe 2007?).

The following sequence shows why it's my favorite. We'll begin in top-up configuration.

It's a nice day so let's enjoy the sunshine. Open the rear hinged trunklid (including folding back the front part of the lid) and begin folding back the top.

Fold up the gray plastic panel behind the seats so the top can snuggle down behind. Return the front part of the trunklid to its normal position.

Close the gray panel and trunklid and off we go!

No resin or white metal model can match the design of this little jewel. Quite reminiscent of some of Corgi's masterpieces. And note the California plate: XLR RULZ.

BTW, this isn't Norev's only retractable fixed roof model. They did this Peugeot 402 Eclipse around the same time.

There are others of course. Minichamps did a 1990s (or thereabouts) Mercedes SL, and we have all seen the '59 Ford by Franklin Mint here many times.

Love the Cadillac with the folding roof
Only other one of these I've seen is the '59 Ford by Franklin Mint.
